Known for sublime grooves that evoke hovering above the desert, they blend composed motifs with immersive improvisation to create organic rhythmic worlds. Featuring a dynamic collective of Tucson talents—Beck Turro (marimba & clarinet), C.J. Boyd (upright & electric bass), and Ryvyr Nyx (six‑string violin)—Compersion prioritizes deep listening, transformation, and spatial resonance in their performances. They’ve recently stirred the desert experimental scene with packed shows around Tucson, including performances at Historic Y, Desert Drone, and Blondie’s, as well as tour stops in the Bay Area and Phoenix. STUART PRESTON

We are here to introduce both a speaker and performer who will be sharing a very intimate performance, The Grief Trip: My After WITH Grief.

When I lost my son Ian to suicide, I did what most dads do—I tried to be strong. I put on the armor. I showed up for my family. And inside, I was falling apart. Traditional grief support didn’t speak to me, so I took a different path. A path through the psychedelic underground.

This talk is part stand-up, part soul-share, and all about the unlikely way psychedelics helped me stop hiding from my pain and start healing with it. Along the way, I discovered something bigger—how neuroplasticity, set and setting, and sacred integration can reshape our relationship with loss, identity, and joy.

You’ll laugh. You might cry. You’ll definitely think differently about what it means to grieve—and to live.

In this session, you’ll explore:

  • Why mushrooms called to me when nothing else could
  • What neuroscience reveals about grief, memory, and healing
  • How set and setting apply far beyond the ceremony
  • What it means to live your “After” in full color, even after unimaginable loss

If you’ve ever wondered how psychedelics can help us face the unbearable—and find beauty anyway—this is the show for you.

Perfect for Southwest Funga Fest we are excited to cry, laugh and learn with Stuart.

He will be giving us the performance on Saturday from 8:00 -9:00 PM. If you don’t follow him make sure to follow him at @thegrieftrip, and @soundsbystu, and definitely make sure to buy your ticket right now so you can come say hello in August.
